The Boat Rambler
Portugal
Приєднався 20 гру 2018
I love sailing and fishing, and being a keen DIYer, I will be making my own boat (s) and exploring any place I can take my boats to!
I'll go fishing, camping, foraging, sailing up rivers and estuaries and admire some cities and villages from an angle most don't...from a boat!
During my journeys I'll might even show you how to catch & cook, Portuguese way!! 😉
I’m sure great adventures await me in Portugal's waters, so jump onboard!

My DIY Boat Loader, Cartopping my Skiff Single Handed.
With my DIY boat loader prototype nearly finished it was time to try it a few times before I reinforce welds and such. This is meant to be a game changer for me as it will allow me to take my boat to different waterways on my own.
It worked as intended although not as smooth I would like but definitely good enough for the job at hand. Getting the boat on and off the roof rack was really easy.

Soloing My New Skiff for the First Time
Переглядів 6 тис.Місяць тому
Weather forecast quite favorable I decided to launch my new skiff and solo it for the first time. Last week I tried my Oz Goose in stronger winds and with Marina as crew and we had a blast. How would the Goose respond to lower wind speeds and solo sailing? Sailed upwind, beam reach, rinning with winds ranging from 7 to 10 kts and gusts to 17kts. Althoug the skiff behaved differently she still d...

Building a Small Boat Collapsible Dolly, Beach Trolley
Переглядів 3,3 тис.Місяць тому
How I built a small collapsible dolly for my small skiff that allows me to take it with me in the boat if needed. In situations like when I have to wheel it some distance and can't go back to the car leaving the boat unattended. Also handy on a longer cruise when you might need to move the skiff inland a few meters or on low tide. ⭐⭐⭐Help me create new content⭐⭐⭐ Buy me a coffee: www.buymeacoff...

What's the name of tour co?
Thoughts on treating the plywood edge grain (gunnel/gunwale)? 25 years ago, I built a similar boat, coated the plywood edge w/epoxy, then varnish. It looks good but eventually the finish cracks up. This year, I stripped it down and might go with oil.
Function over form. Brilliant !
Very very good!
Well, I was one of the naysayers. You've proved me wrong so far Theo! I guess the real test is how easy it is to use /drive with etc which will be revealed over time. The aerodynamics look interesting, so I am sure you will pay attention to tying the bow down to the front of the car!
Hi, I hope the angled bow counteracts the lift force from the curved bottom and it all becomes "neutral cargo"! 😁😅
Hi there where do we get the plans for the goose or the goat shift would be nice to get them and try and build thannk again Jeff from Australia
@@user-of6du4qn2j the link is in the description : storerboatplans 😉
As easy as 123 😊
Would it be very difficult to add blocks or something to make rowing possible looking for a multi purpose boat
Hi, people have done that, it won't be the best rowing boat ever but yes you can row or mount a small outboard to the OZ goose. ua-cam.com/video/57lxRtouFfY/v-deo.html
Brilliant, so useful. Too much engineering for me, but it is an elegant solution for one person loading.
It seems almost perfect Teo, probably you will be tweaking the design as time goes by with improvements. The car looks very nice with the boat on the roof! On a sunny day the car gets some shade.
Fucking genius. game changer.
I ve just joined the channel ..its great '
Welcome aboard! 😉
@@TheBoatRamblerwhere is this ?
@@leekelly-ws3mk Tagus estuary near Lisbon.
@@TheBoatRambler looks beautiful
O resto é embelezamento, porque o sistema ficou 5 estrelas
With all this heavy lifting hope you don't get a hernia. Try to exhale all the air you possibly can while lifting. This will put less pressure on your abdomen wall. Cheers!
Fantastic. Another aspect where the square boat design lends itself to utility. I am jealous of your metalworking skills. The wood and fibreglass work of building my boat I managed ok, but I have no background in metalworking so this is out of my reach! You should patent it and get Michael to sell plans alongside the goose plans!
awesome build! i have an idea for a little spring assist system that would make it easier to lift, but it would make the bars stick out a bit farther on the driver's side, like maybe 1-2 inches. if you're interested just let me know and ill try to explain it
A very good solution!
Ha - that's awesome Teo!!
Thanks Dave
What diameter line to you wrap your yards with?
It's not critical, 3mm is a nice size.
@@TheBoatRambler I was thinking of buying a whole bunch of 3/16 (5mm?) line for wrapping and then whatever else might come up. I could use this weight for tying sails on etc.
I hope you patented it!
would have no clue how to do it! All the stuff I created which has been patented was done by the company I worked for so the lawyers took care of it...
Perfect boat and now ye make the perfect car topper!!
Brilliant !
Great design and build! Don’t worry about the aesthetics, functional prototypes are always rougher. 👍🏼👍🏼
yes... but there is nothing more permanent than a temporary solution or a prototype! 😅😅
Very nicely done..one of the best one's I've seen yet
Great design!
That is bloody brilliant! Congratulations!
Thansk Ian!
Very innovative, well done!
great solution! very smart and well done Teo!
Thanks!
🙌👐🤲👐🤲👐🤲 Right there with Teo's level of attention to detail and price consideration. Fantastic. gary in Japan.
Thanks Gary
Works nicely!
Very good bravo..!!!! **( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡° )**
Well Done Teo...Cabecinha pensadora...👏💪👏💪👏
😁😁😁😁
Brilliant solution.
Thanks Paul!
your design is the best I have seen. SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE NO ROOM FOR A TRAILER, THANKS SO MUCH.
Thanks Robb!
Or it means you can top 1 boat and tow something else as well. Such as caravan, or other big boat perhaps, if traveling.
Teo, have a look at this video for an alternative way of doing this that requires no strength. Different boat, and actually such a nice design as a tacking outrigger, but his way of everything fitting inside the boat & being car-toppable is quite interesting : ua-cam.com/video/BgVJxDxq9IY/v-deo.html
Hi Steven, thanks for the link, very nice.
Tell me you are an "ingeniero" without telling me you are an ingeniero
😂
Thar's great!! Could you please do some closer pictures of the rollers? Thank you very much!!
Sure thing Marcus! 😉
Outstanding solution 👍Two straps and your on your way. The rack might even be adaptable to a wall for easy boat storage off season. Take care and enjoy your days on the water.
Thanks! 😉
Excellent work! I take it that you strap the boat down to the car's roof rack afterwards?
That's correct Ben. I plan on using two straps to the rack and a third through the car (inside) just in case...
Well done! Looks like solid work! What interests me further: how is the boat hooked on the device?
Hi Gerald, The boat is not hooked, it needs to be strapped down to the roof bars. It is much safer than anything I could come up with.
@@TheBoatRambler Yes, but before you lift it, you hook it somehow to the device under the gunwales, what looks very easy. I wonder how you do this :-)
At around 3:10 you can see it, it's just a straight piece of 3mm thick steel bar welded to the frame and carpeted. Since the frame it's at an angle it fits nicely under the gunwales and holds the boat.
@@TheBoatRambler Ok, thank you, I got it :-)
Wow! Great engineering and super useful.
Thanks!
Tsk... winded with that one lift!!! I thought you were in good shape! Nice little rack... well done Teo!!
I blame the heat!! 😅
Easy peezy!
Engineous! Pratical indeed. Very well done Teo!
